People Power. I was too young when it first happened and the second time (and third and any other that may follow at that) around it didn’t feel quite the same anymore. People Power 1 was about ridding the country of a dictator, People Power 2 was about impeaching an embattled president. Not to belittle the second effort but nothing compares to the first and I think nothing ever will. Now, 25 years later, we still remember it with pride and despite not being able to participate yet, I feel that same sense of pride too. What happened that time was exceptional, short of a miracle as some would dare to say, and I know, in our modern world, that a sense of patriotism and unity such as what transpired on those People Power 1 days will seldom have the opportunity to manifest in that grand scale again. Good job to all Filipinos for championing freedom! May we never forget to value it every day of our lives.
